FOUR YEAR PLAN GOALS

Goal One: To increase student enrollment in LIHSA’s music department through targeted updates to curriculum, facilities and staffing structure.

APPROACH

Goal One: LIHSA differentiates its music program from more traditional programs in the surrounding area by developing the curriculum, making significant improvements to the music facilities and refining the staff structure. As the program is able to stand out, they are able to better make the case to prospective students and district gatekeepers for the significant value add of attending LIHSA for a student who is serious about studying music.

OUTCOME

LIHSA’s music program is fully enrolled and includes full classes in both its morning and afternoon offerings.  A newly designed curriculum and updated music spaces stand out from those of traditional high school music programs. The curriculum offers a wide range of course offerings and flexibility for students. Students are able to create an individualized program in which they can fully explore their musical interests in a way that also better prepares them for post-secondary musical study. Through a combination of certified teachers and regular visits from teaching artists for Master classes and residencies, this specialized experience can include everything from performance to songwriting and music technology to non-Western musical traditions and cross-disciplinary work with other departments.
