Goal One: To refine the music program to include an orchestra and music tech.

APPROACH

Goal One: The music teacher will receive professional development and a residency in music tech. He will also receive sectional coaching for the new orchestra.

ARTS PARTNERSHIPS

Goal One: Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra and Young Musician's Project.

OUTCOME

Goal One: Sectional coaching and increased musical instruments inventory will create differentiated learning groups within the Beginning Orchestra Class. Creation of Intermediate Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra courses populated by advanced students from differentiated groups. FTE allocated for new Orchestral Instructor.

OUTCOME

Students are earning course credit for a new music tech arts course in a well-equipped classroom taught by a highly qualified teacher. Choral students will incorporate new theatre techniques in choral performances.

APPROACH

Goal One: The school will create a new visual arts studio and bring on a visual arts partner from a neighboring arts institution.

Goal One: Visual arts classes are added to the master schedule for students to earn fine arts credit, and teacher develops curriculum for a sequential arts program leading to advanced courses.

Goal One: The film program teacher will partner with Cal Arts to work with a teaching artist to refine the curriculum.

Goal Two: The music teacher will work with teaching artists from Young Producer's Group as residencies.

OUTCOME

Goal Two: Our current music program contains Guitar and Band classes—the addition of Music Technology Classes that teach students to compose and produce electronic music will provide them an additional form of expression using a diverse amount of musical styles.  Students develop creativity and collaboration in a way more relevant to their current lives while also utilizing modern instruments and technologies typical to the professional workspace.   After partnering with YPG for professional and curriculum development, Santee will offer Music Technology courses that teach students how to compose and produce electronic using equipment and technology currently used in the professional music industry.  Students will learn the fundament techniques needed to pursue music production at a higher level, such as college or career.
